Enfield's 2008 GOP Town Council

Mayor, Scott Kaupin

District 3

"My top two priorities are:
  • Review all town services to determine future funding needs
  • adequately fund the maintenance of our infrastructure.

Establishing goals and priorities that are then funded through the budget process must begin early in the new two-year term. Subcommittees involving the public should be formed to focus on department budgets and services. The subcommittees should review the services and determine effectiveness, find efficiencies and recommend proper funding levels.

Funding the physical infrastructure maintenance and repair must be a priority. The Council must establish priorities that benefit the entire community to protect our investment. The Council should be in to a position to act rather than react."

District 1: Joe Bosco

Enfield GOP"I would like to control spending and lower or stabilize taxes for the town.

I believe each department should review its budget to find any excess spending, and I would require the department heads to be accountable for their own budgets.

Among my priorities are helping businesses and residents with any problems and applications, and making the process of dealing with local government as painless as possible."

District 4: Clem Dumont

Enfield GOP"Taxes should be kept under control and possibly reduced, especially after the recent revaluation. One way to reduce the tax burden on Enfield residents would be to reduce the budgets. The Town Budget and the Board of Education Budget would have to be reviewed line by line. We should eliminate unnecessary expenses that will not negatively affect services to our taxpayers, or education for our children.

It is very important to listen to the opinions, concerns and ideas of Enfield residents, and act upon these concerns to help Enfield be a better community."

...and in alphabetical order, our At-Large council...

At-Large: Jason Jones

Enfield GOP"My number one priority is taxes. Property revaluation hit us all hard so we need to find ways to save money. We must create a new budget process by starting at a zero base and building it from there. This will allow us to find real savings by eliminating unnecessary and redundant items without harming the services the town provides.

We need to develop a true vision for Enfield that answers where we see our community in 5, 10, 20 years. I believe the discussion starts with Thompsonville, where we have a tremendous opportunity for economic growth. With a smart growth policy in place, we would be able to accomplish just that."

At-Large: Bill Lee

Enfield GOP" I believe Economic Development and Revitalization are our top priorities.

Enfield must become more strategic and deliberate in its attempts to attract meaningful business growth within our community. To do so will involve enacting fair yet attractive incentive programs while continuing to improve the way business is conducted at Town Hall.

Enfield should lead the way as our region prepares for the promise of the Commuter Rail Service.

I believe a vital component of our success will involve making real measurable commitments to further our Thompsonville Village neighborhood revitalization efforts.

There, and across Enfield, we should be enabling historic preservation policies to protect our Town¹s character and history, while increasing the opportunity for owner-occupied housing and small business growth."

At-Large: Ken Nelson

Enfield GOP"I will work to increase growth within our community, both residential and commercial. This will increase the Grand List and increase revenues to the town without asking the residents for more taxes when they can least afford it.

I will look for inefficiencies in the town’s day-to-day operations by carefully reviewing all town department budgets, administration/salary costs, fuel costs, etc. By identifying what areas can be “cut back” or eliminated the town saves money, which directly benefits the taxpayers."

At-Large: Bill Ragno

Enfield GOP"We must maintain current levels of town services without increasing the tax rate. We should start with a zero-based budget. We must critically review all departments to ensure revenues are being allocated resourcefully, that programs are viable and funds are being utilized to the maximum extent possible.

We must develop a streamlined approach to business development to attract new businesses and increase our Grand List and revenue stream. We must improve the process to coordinate application requirements, reduce meeting times and facilitate the approval process."
